A razão para isso é a abundância de caulim no solo de Pacaraima, um tipo específico de minério que retarda significativamente o processo de decomposição dos corpos, resultando em uma decomposição extraordinariamente lenta e quase eterna.

Desde o ano de sua fundação, em 1995, Pacaraima sempre teve essa necessidade de ter um cemitério na cidade. E como solução encontrada, a opção tem sido transportar o falecido até a capital Boa Vista, que fica a 215 km de distância.

Inicialmente, após o falecimento, alguns moradores foram sepultados na região de Surumu (Cemitério São Jose e recebe corpos somente de moradores daquela região), que fica a aproximadamente de 1 hora e 30 minutos.

O pesquisador sugere que ainda é necessário um mapeamento geológico abrangente do município, embora se suspeite que a maior parte da área possua esse atributo geológico. O único fato inequívoco é que a sede de Pacaraima é constituída inteiramente de caulim puro.

O processo natural de decomposição ocorre quando o coração cessa seu ritmo, decompondo gradativamente o corpo até que reste apenas a estrutura esquelética. Porém, se o indivíduo fosse sepultado em Pacaraima, a terra aderiria aos tecidos do corpo, impedindo o ritmo de decomposição.

Para que o corpo seja submetido à mumificação, que envolve a preservação da pele e dos músculos por meio da dessecação mesmo após a morte, é necessário um ambiente extremamente quente, seco ou frio.

Segundo Vladimir, embora o corpo acabe se decompondo, a presença de argila mineral pode retardar significativamente esse processo natural. A argila, por ser uma substância pegajosa, tem a capacidade de aderir aos tecidos do corpo, desacelerando efetivamente todo o processo de decomposição. Como resultado, os corpos podem permanecer neste estado por um longo período de tempo, abrangendo anos e anos.
